The Verdict

When I first heard about this weird sounding ice cream recipe, I wondered what in the world it would taste like. I announced to my husband that this was the next ice cream flavor on my to do list.

He was a little skeptical of the idea, but said he would be willing to try it.

So I tried it and we loved it! This ice cream combines the classic sweet ice cream taste with a little zing of saltiness for a pleasing combination of flavors.

The Texture

The sea salt in this recipe helps to keep the ice cream from going hard…great news since homemade ice cream, especially Philadelphia style, tends to be a little hard.

Sea Salt: Tips and Tricks

Different Types of Sea Salts

There are many different types of sea salts.

Each type of sea salt varies in saltiness from the other types.

When I made this recipe, I used French Grey Sea Salt, but regular sea salt works great too.

Personal Preference

Also keep in mind that everyone’s preferences are different, you may prefer a more salty flavor or you may prefer a less salty one.

Add sea salt according to your taste preference.

Adding the Sea Salt

The amount of salt that you want to add to your ice cream is dependent on the type of sea salt you add and your own personal preference.

Start with a little less salt than the recipe calls for.

Don’t forget that the sea salt needs to dissolve completely to affect the taste.

Combine well and allow the sea salt to dissolve and permeate the ice cream base.

Then taste to see if you want to add more.

Go on try this ice cream flavor! I think you’ll be happy that you did!sea salt ice cream recipe

Serving Tip

Depending on the flavor that you want to bring out – place a rolled wafer cookie or a pretzel stick in each bowl of ice cream.
