Butterscotch Ice Cream Recipe

Our Butterscotch ice cream recipe is an easy way to make one of the most classic and beloved ice cream flavors of all time.

Butterscotch Ice Cream Recipe

This ice cream is sweet and creamy – just like it should be.

With just 5 ingredients, this ice cream recipe is quick and simple.

As a beloved classic, it’s a perfect flavor to add to your list of favorite homemade ice cream recipes.

What is Butterscotch?

Just what is Butterscotch?

I was always familiar with the flavor – but I never stopped to figure out just what it was…that is until I had to make it myself for an ice cream flavor.

I’ve always considered butterscotch and caramel to be very similar in flavor. Now I know why.

Caramel is a combination of cooked white sugar and butter.

Butterscotch is a combination of cooked brown sugar and butter.

Makes sense. Both are yummy, but no wonder they taste so similar!

Interesting fact of the day: Butterscotch was first made in the United Kingdom in the early 1800s.

Serving Tip

This ice cream is great served in a cone or simply served in a bowl. Friends of ours rave about butterscotch ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup.

No matter how you eat this ice cream, you’re sure to enjoy it.

If you really want a butterscotch kick, you can try it with butterscotch sauce.

We really enjoyed our ice cream out of our trusty Cuisinart ice cream maker.
