Fruit Ice Cream

Banana Ice Cream Recipe

Banana ice cream is a great fruit ice cream. Its fresh flavor tastes just like a banana split!

The Banana Win

The banana is a great asset to this recipe.

Of course, it’s used to provide the great flavor for this ice cream.

Win

It also provides a more subtle, but equally important role: the banana helps to produces a soft, creamy texture.

I love the “feel” of this ice cream. This is especially helpful for the Philadelphia style ice cream that is usually not as creamy as the Custard style.

Double win!

Making this homemade ice cream is a great way to use up some of those ripe bananas you have hanging around in your kitchen before they go bad.

Triple win!

Banana Split History

People have been pairing banana’s with this frozen dessert for quite some time.

The first banana split was popularized in the early 1900s.

It was invented by David Strickler in Pennsylvania. He was a pharmacist who loved inventing different ice cream sundaes to sell.

In 1904, he came up with the idea of adding a banana to the sundae. The first sundae was sold for 10 cents.

News of the delicious banana sundae spread and now it is a classic favorite dessert.

The rest, they say, is history.

Serving Tip

Of course, you can always serve this ice cream flavor with toppings and sauces to recreate a banana split.

Here’s another fun way to play off of the “banana split taste.”

Serve this ice cream with a fruit fondue!

Dip fresh fruit into the fondue and place on ice cream.

You can also use hot chocolate or caramel fondue as a delicious topping!
