Cold Ice Cream Game

Ice Cream Ball
This fast paced ice cream game results in some freshly made homemade ice cream and is a spin off of the classic game “Hot Potato.” Just like Hot Potato this game involves the suspense of not being caught with the ball – but the end result is tasty…freshly made homemade ice cream!

What You’ll Need

  • Play and Freeze Ice Cream Ball
  • Ice Cream ready to be made in ice cream ball
  • Music (optional)
  • Timer (to know when ice cream is done)

How to Play

Choose one person to be the “Farmer” and have everyone else sit in a circle.

Place ice cream ingredients in ice cream ball (start the timer so that you know when the ice cream needs to be stirred or is finished).

Hand the ice cream ball to one of the kids in the circle. Have the children shake the ball twice and then quickly pass the ball to the person next to them – keep ball going around the circle in this manner.

When the Farmer calls “Stop” (or stops music that has been playing) whoever has the ice cream ball leaves the circle.

The game ends when only one person is left (or when the ice cream is done!) – that person will be the next Farmer.

Variation

Rather than passing the ball the ball to one another around the circle, have children simply roll the ball across the circle to whomever they want!

If you have a large party with lots of guests – you can have several Play and Freeze balls going around the circle at once – so that you make more ice cream (or just have some other store-bought ice cream on hand to serve as well)!

Note

Do not kick or throw the Play and Freeze.
