Cherry Garcia Ice Cream Recipe

This Cherry Garcia ice cream recipe is a tasty treat! It's very similar to one of Ben and Jerry's most popular ice cream flavors!

Combining the tangy flavor of cherries with the sweetness of ice cream and the slight bitterness of dark chocolate, this ice cream is a delicious combination of flavors!

Helpful Hint: Cherries have a tendency of freezing very hard. If you would like to help prevent this, you can roast the cherries before adding them to your ice cream. Here's how you do it.

Preheat oven to 450. In a glass dish, place whole (de-stemmed) cherries.

Toss the cherries in 1 1/2 tbsp of sugar to coat them.

Roast in the over for 10-15 minutes - stir them occasionally and cook until the cherries are soft - but don't let the sugar burn.

Remove from oven, cool, remove pits, and slice into quarters.

Chill overnight.

Cherry Garcia Ice Cream Recipe

Philadelphia Style

Prep Time: 25 minutes
Chill Time: 2 hours
Ice Cream Maker Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes
Servings: Ten 1/2 cup servings

Ingredients:

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup shaved dark chocolate
1/4 cup cherries, halved and pitted (fresh Bing cherries are best, if using canned - be sure to drain syrup)

Directions:
If you don't have an ice cream maker, click here.

Dissolve sugar in milk With a whisk.

Add heavy whipping cream.

Pour this mixture into your ice cream maker.

Churn in ice cream maker about 20-25 minutes or according to manufacturer's instructions.

Add shaved dark chocolate and cherries to churning mixture.

Churn for an additional 5 minutes.

Serve and Enjoy!

Custard Style

Prep Time: 25 minutes
Chill Time: 2 hours
Ice Cream Maker Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes
Makes: 1 1/2 quarts
Servings: Ten 1/2 cup servings

Ingredients:

2 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups whipping cream
1/4 cup shaved dark chocolate
1/4 cup cherries, halved and pitted (fresh Bing cherries are best, if using canned - be sure to drain syrup)

Directions:

Place eggs and sugar in a small bowl and beat well, until light and fluffy.

In a saucepan, heat milk until it starts to bubble.

Pour hot milk over beaten egg mixture. Stir well.

Pour this mixture back into saucepan and heat, stirring constantly until mixture becomes thick and sticks to the back of a spoon.

Chill for at least 2 hours.

After mixture is chilled, stir in whipping cream.

Pour this ice cream base into your ice cream machine.

Mix for 20-25 minutes (or according to manufacturer's instructions).

Into the churning ice cream, add dark chocolate and cherries.

Mix for 5 minutes.

Dig in!
