Dirt Ice Cream Recipe

Dirt Ice Cream Recipe
Philadelphia StylePrep Time: 15 minutes Chill Time: 15 minutes and 30 minutes Ice Cream Maker Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes Makes: 1 1/2 quarts Servings: Ten 1/2 cup servings Ingredients:
1 cup milk 1/3 cup granulated sugar 1 1/3 cup bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate (8 oz) 2 cups heavy cream 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup crushed Oreos (about 5 cookies) 1/2 cup gummy worms *Crushed Oreos: Put Oreos in a Ziploc bag. Carefully close the bag. With the heel of your hand, crush Oreos. Directions: If you don't have an ice cream maker, click here. Heat milk until it just begins to bubble (in microwave or on stove). Chop chocolate into fine pieces using a food processor or blender. Combine chocolate and sugar. Blend hot milk and chocolate mixture until mixture is smooth and chocolate is melted. Let the chocolate mixture cool completely. Stir in cream and vanilla. Let this mixture chill for at least 30 minutes. Pour into your ice cream maker. Mix about 20-25 minutes or according to manufacturer's instructions. Add crushed Oreo. Mix about 5 more minutes in your ice cream maker. Place ice cream in an airtight container for storage. Stir in gummy worms with a large spoon. Helpful Hint: Do not put gummy worms into ice cream maker. Because of their size, they may harm your machine.

Custard/Cream StylePrep Time: 15 minutes Chill Time: 1-2 hours Ice Cream Maker Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes Makes: 1 quart Servings: Eight 1/2 cup servings Ingredients: 2 oz (1/3 cup) unsweetened chocolate 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 1/2 cups milk 2 large eggs 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup heavy cream 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup crushed Oreos (about 5 cookies) 1/2 cup gummy worms *Crushed Oreos: Put Oreos in a Ziploc bag. Carefully close the bag. With the heel of your hand, crush Oreos. Directions: If you don't have an ice cream maker, click here. Using a double boiler, melt chocolate. Slowly pour in cocoa powder, stirring until completely smooth. With a whisk, stir in milk so mixture is blended and smooth. Cool. Meanwhile, whisk eggs until light and fluffy. Slowly stir in sugar and whisk for 1 minute. Mix in cream and vanilla. Add cooled chocolate mixture and stir. Chill for 1-2 hours until cold. Pour into ice cream maker. Churn for 20-25 minutes or according to manufacturer's instructions. Add crushed Oreo. Churn an additional 5 minutes in your ice cream maker. Place ice cream in an airtight container for storage, stirring in gummy worms with a large spoon. Helpful Hint: Because of their size, gummy worms may harm your machine. Don't put gummy worms into ice cream maker - hand stir them into your ice cream.
